Gamma oryzanol is nature nutrient from bran oil and is a compond made up of a plant sterol and feruliate. Animal studies have shown that less than 10% of the gamma oryzanol take in is absorbed. The small amounts that are absorbed travel to theliver where the compound is separated into the sterol portion gets excreted while the ferulic acid esters circulates in the body.

Gamma oryzanol has been used to treat menopausal symptoms, hyperlipidemias, and GI problems. It is being studied for effects on the CNS and endocrine systems and also as a supplementation in bodybuilding.

Gamma-oryzanol supplements have also relieved pain, nausea, vomiting, and other post-meal gastrointestinal symptoms in study participants suffering from gastritis (stomach inflammation). Japanese scientists conducting various trials have discovered that gamma-oryzanol may ease hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause, and may even help to lower cholesterol. In addition, antioxidant properties in the extract may protect heart vessels from free-radical damage.
